According to Crain’s New York Business’ annual list Sharp Decisions has ranked as the 11th largest women-owned companies in the New York Area.

Of those companies ranked, Sharp Decisions has the 3rd most number of local employees.

“I have a team of talented individuals that step up to the plate every day,” said CEO Karen Ross. “It’s because of their hard work and dedication, as well as their patience, that we have been able to see so much growth and success in the past year.”

The report says the New York metro area has the greatest increase in the number of women-owned firms, outpacing many other major cities such as Los Angeles and Chicago.

More than two-thirds of the listed companies posted gains, showing more and more of them are topping over $1 million in revenue each year.

“It’s a great sign for women as leaders in the business realm,” Ross said. “For a while, especially in tech, women-owned businesses have been labeled as ‘small-time ventures.’ This is an encouraging trend for women in the global workforce.”

The ranking in Crain’s comes during a great time of growth and improvement at Sharp Decisions.

This year, Sharp Decisions was moved by the plight of military veterans struggling with unemployment and decided we wanted to do something about it.

That something was to train military veterans coming back from deployment in information technology and computer skills with the goal of providing them with careers.

Since the program launch in March 2013, more than 20 veterans have been placed at companies like EmblemHealth, NYC’s largest health insurance company.

“It’s about more than giving back: we have to innovate,” said John Ciurczak, Quality Assurance Manager and lead trainer for the V.E.T.S program. “Veterans are a valuable resource, and we are in a position as a company to show how valuable they are.”

Sharp Decisions looks forward to continued growth, new pursuits, and success’ over the coming year.
