Dispatches from the Heart: The Lasting Impact of 9/11

To me, September 11, 2001 is a day of remembrance. A day when I felt the gravity of the world in a matter of seconds and the core belief that we were united beyond race and culture, but as a nation.
This was a day where I saw people work beyond expectations and give more than necessary to help others in great need. But a tragic day in my lifetime also gave me a a glimpse into human kindness and selflessness.
In my military career, we have mourned the loss of those on 9/11 and everyone that has sacrificed. We also embrace our moments and our life now. We learn to be a little more watchful, a little more prepared, just a bit more understanding. Maybe, through it all, the way we never forget is not only remembering those that have fallen, but also remembering to support each other and express genuine kindness.
This day changed all our lives, it made this 17-year-old boy look at life through the eyes of a man. It empowered me with an inextinguishable desire to serve and defend this nation the best I can.
Never Forget 9/11/2001.
