Today as we celebrate the Red, White, and Blue of the American Flag, let’s take a look at some facts about Flag Day and Old Glory.

Did you know?

  1. Formed on June 14th, 1775, as the Continental Army to fight the American Revolutionary War, The United Stars Army shares its birthday with Flag Day.
  1. Up until President Taft’s Executive Order on June 24th, 1912, neither the order of the stars nor the proportions of the flag were fixed. Each American Flag maker may have arranged the stars in different fashions, with no standard put in place until President Taft’s Executive Order formally standardized the proportions and design.
  1. President Woodrow Wilson officially established June 14th as Flag Day in 1916.
  1. The American Flag we know today is only 63 years old in 2023 – The 50th star representing Hawaii (joining the US in 1959) was only added in 1960.
